Appointment of Sutter County Undersheriff

Sheriff Parker announced that effective May 27, 2009, Captain Jeff Pierce shall be appointed to the position of Undersheriff. The position of Undersheriff has been temporarily occupied by Retired Undersheriff Bill Grove who returned from retirement to fill in on a part time basis since April of last year.
Captain Pierce has more than 30 years of law enforcement experience, beginning his career with the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department in 1978, followed by time with the Grass Valley Police Department and then coming to the Sutter County Sheriff’s Department in 1981. Jeff attained the rank of Patrol Corporal in 1989, Patrol Sergeant in 1997 and then promoted to Division Commander in 1999. In the last 10 years, Jeff has commanded the Patrol, Communications, Civil and Detective Divisions. Jeff has developed a great expertise in departmental budgets and the administration of State and Federal grants. Jeff earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from California State University at Sacramento and is a 2001 graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.
Jeff has served in almost every position and unit within the patrol division which has included:
- K-9 Deputy with partner Kirk
- Resident Deputy - Beat 10
- Live Oak Substation
- SED (SWAT) team member and leader
- Narcotics Agent assigned to Net-5
- Departmental Range master
- Reserve Deputy Coordinator
- Departmental Fixed Wing Pilot
Jeff earned a silver medal at the 1990 Police Olympics in wrestling. He has received the Michael Sergie Award for exemplary leadership during the Grass Valley SWAT Competition. In both 1997 and 2004 Jeff was chosen as the Sheriff’s Departments Officer of the Year at the Annual Exchange Club Awards. Captain Pierce has two sons and in his spare time volunteers as a youth football coach for Wheatland. Jeff is also active in the family farming operation.
