For Immediate Release:
The Sutter County Sheriff’s Department utilizing underage Sheriff’s Cadets conducted an
Alcohol Shoulder Tap Operation in the Live Oak and Yuba City area. The goal and
purpose of this operation is to reduce underage drinking and to deter adults from
furnishing alcohol to minors outside of liquor stores.
Undercover cadets contacted a male subject outside of the AM/PM Store, 1332 Bogue
Road, Yuba City, who agreed to purchase alcohol. After turning over the alcohol to the
cadet, the male was arrested for furnishing alcohol to a minor. He was identified as
Michael James Brown, 53, of Yuba City. The investigation determined Brown was also
driving under the influence of alcohol and he was booked into the Sutter County jail.
Several other Shoulder Tap Operations were conducted with the following subjects being
cited and released for furnishing alcohol to a minor.
Numerous other patrons were solicited by the cadets and were rejected in their attempts
to get alcohol purchased.
The Sutter County Sheriff’s Department will continue to conduct alcohol enforcement
operations and to offer education for merchants and the public regarding alcohol
regulations. These combined enforcement and educational efforts are intended to reduce
the availability of alcohol to minors.
