Three Arrested in Attempted Drive-By Shooting

On Saturday, September 26, 2009, at approximately 10:36 p.m. a Sutter County Sheriff’s Deputy while on patrol heard what sounded like gunshots in the area of Walnut Drive and Orchard Way in Live Oak. While checking the area the deputy observed a green Honda at a high rate of speed leaving the area and began to follow the vehicle.
At approximately 10:38 p.m. dispatch received a call of a possible drive-by shooting with no injuries in the area of Orchard Way and Walnut Drive, Live Oak. A resident reported that he was checking his vehicle when a green Honda slowly drove by and unknown subjects fired a shot from inside the vehicle, and then sped away. The resident was not injured; however, a vehicle parked in the driveway rear window had been shattered.
Sutter County Sheriff’s deputies continued to follow the suspect vehicle down Highway 99 to Yuba City where a felony traffic stop was conducted with the assistance of Yuba City Police Department on Highway 99 north of Highway 20 without incident. Three subjects were taken into custody.
James Patrick Holcomb, 18, Gabriel Montiel, 20 and Marcelino Ruiz Ramos Jr. 20, all of Live Oak, were arrested and booked into Sutter County Jail on charges of suspicion of attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, participation in a criminal street gang, and discharge of a firearm with intent to cause great bodily injury or death. Holcomb was also arrested on suspicion of possession of a concealed firearm.
