In Custody Death at Jail
Friday, April 30, 2010 8:00 AM
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
The Sutter County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the death of an inmate that was discovered during a routine cell check just after 8:50 P.M. Thursday evening.
Rodney Louis BOCK, age 56, of District 10 was discovered unresponsive in his single cell jail unit during a routine cell check by jail deputies. Jail medical personnel were on the scene within one minute. Yuba City Fire and Bi County Ambulance arrived by 9:01 P.M. Mr. Bock was pronounced deceased at that time.
Investigators from the Sutter County District Attorney’s Office as well as forensic personnel
from the California Department of Justice are conducting the investigation at the request of
Sheriff J. Paul Parker. “Mr. Bock was housed by himself in the single cell pod units of the jail and although he was by himself and outside forces or foul play is not apparent, until the cause and nature of the death is determined it is prudent to have outside agencies investigate in-custody deaths rather than the Sheriff’s Department itself,” Sheriff Parker said. “The jail has several digital video cameras and those will be reviewed by investigators. An autopsy will be scheduled as soon as possible to also assist investigators,” Sheriff Parker said.
Mr. Bock was booked into the jail on April 2, 2010 by Yuba City Police for failure to appear on felony charges. Those felony charges were when Bock had originally been booked by Yuba City police on January 15, 2010 on charges of criminal threats, concealed weapons, loaded firearms in a public place and disorderly conduct and was out on bail.
