For Immediate Release:
For the past several weeks, the Sutter County Sheriff’s Department has been investigating a rash of burglaries that have occurred in South Sutter and Yolo Counties. After an extensive investigation, the Sheriff’s Department determined Tomas Quezada Sr. (48 years old) and his son; Tomas Quezada Jr. (28 years old) were possibly involved in several of the burglaries. The Yuba/Sutter Narcotic and Gang Enforcement Team (NET-5) had been separately investigating Tomas Quezada Sr. for his involvement in distributing methamphetamine in the South Sutter and Yolo Counties area.
As a result of their investigation, the Sutter County Sheriff’s Department obtained search warrants for the Quezada’s residence and their mother/grandmother’s residence, both in the 17000 block of Sacramento Valley Blvd. in Robbins. The search warrant was for stolen property related to the burglaries.
On 03/29/2011 at approximately 0745 hours, the Sutter County Sheriff’s Department and the Yuba/Sutter Narcotic and Gang Enforcement Team served the search warrants. Tomas Quezada Sr. and Jr. were located at their residence along with Tomas Sr’s girlfriend, Andrea Paustian (27 years old). During the service of the search warrant, the Sutter County Sheriff’s Department recovered numerous stolen items from various burglaries in South Sutter and Yolo Counties. Some of the stolen items date back to a 2008 burglary. Also located was a loaded handgun with an altered serial number believed to be stolen. Property recovered is estimated at $12,000.
While searching the Quezada residence NET-5 agents located items associated with drug dealing. NET-5 obtained a second search warrant for the Quezada residence authorizing the seizure of items associated with drug dealing. Upon searching the residence for drugs, NET-5 agents located and seized a half-ounce of methamphetamine along with items associated with the distribution of methamphetamine.
Tomas Quezada Sr. and his girlfriend, Andrea Paustian were arrested for possession of methamphetamine for sale and maintaining a place for drug dealing. Tomas Quezada Jr. was arrested for possession of stolen property. All three were booked into the Sutter County Jail.
This investigation reinforces the well-documented connection between drug use, drug dealing, and property crimes, such as burglary. It also showcases the on-going cooperation between NET-5 and the various law enforcement agencies in the Yuba/Sutter Area.
