Scam Alert – Public Awareness

Sutter County Sheriff’s Office is asking the community to be aware of a scam being perpetrated in the Sutter County area. The scam is initiated when residents receive a telephone call from individuals who identify themselves with a name and state they are from the, “Internal Revenue Service.” The caller asks for the family member by name and informs them they are delinquent in a tax payment, which needs to be resolved immediately. These scam callers are requesting individuals to obtain money from their accounts and wire the money within sixty minutes. The caller is also telling the victim to stay on the phone with them as they make the money transaction.
If you receive any suspicious calls DO NOT give out any personal information, such as social security number, bank account numbers, etc.
Anyone with information regarding this type of fraud activity is encouraged to report these incidents to their local law enforcement agency.
