Corrections Section - Lieutenant Norman Bidwell
Lieutenant Norman J. Bidwell is an eighteen year veteran of the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office.
In July 1984, after serving a six year tour in Okinawa, Japan, Lieutenant Bidwell and his family moved
to the Yuba/Sutter area where he was stationed at Beale Air Force Base. During his tenure at Beal,
he attained the position of, and retired as, the Superintendent of Law Enforcement.
Serving a total of 21 years of active duty in the United States Air Force, he retired having
achieved a rank of Master Sergeant (E-7).
In November 1990, Lieutenant Bidwell initially was hired as a Reserve Correctional Officer with the
Sutter County Sheriff’s Office Corrections section and became a full time officer in November 1991.
Soon thereafter, Norman was promoted to Corporal and on January 16, 1999 he was promoted to Correctional
Sergeant. In 1993 and again in 2000 he was selected for the DSA Correctional Officer of the Year.
In 2005, Norman was promoted to Lieutenant and serves as the second in command of the Corrections Section.
Lieutenant Bidwell received his Associate’s Degree in Administration of Justice from the Yuba Community
College in 1988. His accomplishments include the completion of the Air Force Non-Commissioned Officer
(NCO) Leadership School, the NCO Academy, and the Senior NCO Academy. He also completed the Air Force
Technical Instructor Course (TIC), and he has graduated from the POST Executive Management Course.
Lieutenant Bidwell is married to his wife Rosa and has a daughter Patricia.
