Live Oak Citizen Surveys
In conducting citizen surveys to determine concerns and complaints by Live Oak citizens,
one of the most important complaints noted was speeding vehicles. In an attempt to address
this concern, the Live Oak Substation initiated a program called Speed Watch. This program
allows the use of portable radar units by qualified citizens and encourages their participation
in the program by training the citizen to use the unit in their neighborhood. The citizens
will use the units to identify speeds and record license numbers of violating vehicles. The
Live Oak Deputies will then prepare an awareness letter, which will be mailed to the registered
owner of the vehicle.
In addition, the substation deputies have available to them a portable radar trailer, that has a
lighted message board. The board has the capabilities of not only warning the drivers of their
vehicle speed, but can also warn them to reduce the speed of their vehicle. If you believe the
radar trailer would be of assistance in your neighborhood, please contact Lieutenant Uppal at
530-695-2122 or at the Sheriff's Office 530-822-7307.
