Sheriff's Cadet Program
The Sheriff’s Cadet Program offers first hand experience to young people
who may be interested in a career in law enforcement. The program provides
valuable training and experience and opportunity for young people to provide
a valuable community service.

Sheriff's Cadets with Program Staff
The Sheriff’s Cadet Program is currently accepting applications for the
position of Cadet. This is a volunteer position and those accepted must
purchase their own uniforms and equipment. Applicants must be between the
ages of 16-21. Cadets may be allowed to stay in the program until they have
reached age 22.
A cadet must volunteer at least 16 hours per month and attend a monthly meeting
which may include training. After accumulating 50 hours of orientation in working
in dispatch and jail settings, the cadet is eligible to ride on patrol with a
deputy. Some of the duties the cadet may become involved in are traffic control,
working in dispatch, and report writing. A selected few cadets are offered the
opportunity to participate in the alcohol buy, shoulder tap, or tobacco buy
program in an undercover capacity. The cadets are regularly assigned to assist in
community events such as the Yuba-Sutter Fair, Sutter Buttes Days, the East Nicolas
Parade, or the annual Sikh Parade.
If you have any questions regarding the Cadet Program, you can call Deputy Robert
Brokenbrough, Cadet Program Coordinator at (530) 822-7307.
Applications are available at the Sheriff's Department.
